Extended two-body problem for rotating rigid bodies

چکیده
A new technique that utilizes surface integrals to find the force, torque and potential energy between two non-spherical, rigid bodies is presented. The method relatively fast, allows us solve full two-body problem for pairs of spheroids ellipsoids with 12 degrees freedom. We demonstrate dimensionless test scenarios, one where tumbling motion develops, resemble spinning tops. also on asteroid binary (66391) 1999 KW4, both components are modelled either as or ellipsoids. different shape models have negligible effects eccentricity semi-major axis, but a larger impact angular velocity along $z$-direction. In all cases, total momentum conserved, simulation accuracy kept at machine level.

The Dynamics of Two Coupled Rigid Bodies
In this paper we derive a Poisson bracket on the phase space so(3)* x so(3)* x SO(3) such that the dynamics of two three dimensional rigid bodies coupled by a baJl and socket joint can be written as a Hamiltonian system.
متن کاملTwo Methods for Interpolating Rigid Body Motions
This paper investigates methods for computing a smooth motion that interpolates a given set of positions and orientations of a rigid body. To make the interpolation independent of the representation of the motion, we use the coordinate-free framework of differential geometry. Inertial and body-fixed reference frames must be chosen to describe the position and orientation of the rigid body. We s...
متن کاملSimulating hard rigid bodies
Several physical systems in condensed matter have been modeled approximating their constituent particles as hard objects. The hard spheres model has been indeed one of the cornerstones of the computational and theoretical description in condensed matter. The next level of description is to consider particles as rigid objects of generic shape, which would enrich the possible phenomenology enormo...
متن کامل3 New Upper Limit of Terrestrial Equivalence Principle Test for Rotating Extended Bodies
Improved terrestrial experiment to test the equivalence principle for rotating extended bodies is presented, and a new upper limit for the violation of the equivalence principle is obtained at the level of 1.6×10, which is limited by the friction of the rotating gyroscope. It means the spin-gravity interaction between the extended bodies has not been observed at this level. Typeset using REVTEX
متن کاملFrame Dragging Anomalies for Rotating Bodies
Examples of axially symmetric solutions to Einstein's field equations are given that exhibit anomalous " negative frame dragging " in the sense that zero angular momentum test particles acquire angular velocities in the opposite direction of rotation from the source of the metric.
